    What is a Stuffed Dinner Roll?

    A Stuffed Dinner Roll is a round piece of bread with some stuffing filled inside the roll before it is baked. People consume these dinner rolls as a part of the meal. Stuffed dinner rolls and soup are great companions for dinner especially when you want to keep yourself light before sleeping. Different animal shapes excite my child and therefore for him I give shapes like pig, tortoise, bunny etc. It is so much fun when you hear your child talking to his friends and saying “Guys, you know what, I had a crocodile yesterday”.

Now for some recipes, you do have to spend the needed long time like Baguette. I am generalizing the time especially relevant to people giving attempt to a recipe. So the recipe today is of a fast and easy dinner roll.

    Stuffed Dinner Rolls Recipe

    My family loves to have soup for dinner. In general, I prepare some salads or bread to accompany with soup. Yesterday when I was about to bake a fresh bread loaf for dinner, I found some left over Dosa stuffing in my refrigerator and some boiled potatoes as well. I changed my plan and thought to bake Stuffed dinner rolls this time. All were happy in the family and my stuffed rolls got vanished in just 15 minutes.

    The recipe today we are going to work on is a dinner roll recipe without eggs and without milk. I use a variety of stuffing in my eggless stuffed dinner rolls. My husband like a stuffing of sautéed spinach and mushroom, while my child likes cheese stuffing. I prefer mashed potatoes stuffing and call them potato dinner rolls.

    How to freeze dinner rolls

    I will not recommend storing stuffed dinner roll. However, you can store a plain and simple dinner roll in freezer for about a month. You will need to let the dinner roll cool down completely and then wrap the roll tightly with an aluminium foil. You can then put the dinner roll in a freezer and store the roll for about a month.

    How to heat up dinner rolls

    Put your oven to 180 degrees Celsius and put the frozen aluminium foil wrapped dinner roll in the oven for about 20 minutes. Take them out and serve them hot. Your dinner rolls will be soft and spongy while they are warm but remember they can become dry if they cool down.

    Instructions

    In luke warm water, add sugar and yeast. Stir it well and keep it aside until it froths.

    Activated Yeast

    In a bowl, add Flour, salt and mashed potatoes. Mix all the dry ingredients well.

    Add the activated yeast mixture to the flour and knead it.

    It will be sticky initially, hence take some oil in your hand and knead it for another 10 min. Add dry flour only if it is required.

    After 10 minutes of kneading, you will get a soft dough. Place it in a greased bowl for first proofing and cover it with cling wrap. Let it rest for about 40 minutes or until it doubles in volume.

    Once the dough doubles in volume, punch the dough to release the air and take it out on a dusted surface. Knead it for another 5-10 min.

    Divide the dough into 6 equal parts. Roll the each part and put some stuffing into it. Fold all the corners and seal all the edges properly. (Just like we do to make stuffed pranthas).

    Place all the stuffed dough balls in a greased baking pan. Cover it and let it rest for second proofing. It will approximately take 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 200 degree Celsius for 10 min.

    Give a milk wash to the rolls. You might also like to add Sesame seeds on the rolls. Bake them at 200 degree Celsius for 20 minutes (temperature and time can vary depending upon size of your Oven).

    1. Does instant yeast require soaking in lukewarm water n sugar Sol.As we do this for dry active yeast.This was mentioned in Ur stuffed vada pav recipe.

        It is not a must step for instant yeast, but a recommended step from my end. I recommend this to ensure that the yeast that we are going to use with the ingredients is still in working condition. I try to be just more greedy and save the ingredients, just in case the yeast was no longer good to be used.

        Yes you can use wheat flour, but the dinner rolls will be dense and heavy. You can try using 50% whole wheat and 50% all-purpose flour and make your dinner rolls.
